Miss New York

How to sponsor me

Rescued on: May 18, 2013
Age: 4-5 Yrs
Breed: Lab Mix
Sex: Female
Fixed: Yes
Size: 70 lbs
House Trained: Yes
Other Dogs: Yes
Cats: Yes
Children: Yes, although might be better with older as she can startle sometimes.
Leash: Pretty good until she sees a bunny!

Personality:

Miss New York is such a wonderfully sweet and loyal lady that just needs about 24 hours to warm up to her new people! She does great in her foster home with two kids (13 and 11), 3 dogs, and two cats!! After living in a shelter for the majority of her life, she can get startled by new noises but she also does a fabulous job bouncing back from it. New people can seem scary to her also, but again, it doesn't take long for them to be her best friend! She is TOTALLY housetrained and doesn't ever need to be crated when left at home by herself. She would make a great hiking companion but also doesn't need a lot of exercise for her temperament (although does probably for her weight!). Miss New York isn't a dog that will come running up to you and knock you down and lick you to death. She is one that will be hesitant at first, but love you FOREVER!!!! She is so happy to be in a home setting with people that love her and can't wait to find her forever home!
Story: Miss New York spent four years in the shelter in the Bahamas so this has been quite an adjustment for her!
Thanks to the Mauk family for being great fosters to Miss New York!!

Rescued on: February 1, 2013
Age: 8 years
Breed: Lab mix
Sex: Female
Fixed: Yes
Size: 78 lbs
House Trained: Yes
Other Dogs: Yes
Cats: TBD
Children: Carmel would prefer to live in a house with older or no children. As a mellow girl herself, she prefers a more mellow, quiet household.
Leash: Good

Personality:

Carmel is a very sweet lady who is very gentle and loving and wants nothing more than to go anywhere you do and be where you are. Her most favorite thing to do is to go for walks, this really makes her happy! Carmel is completely house trained and does not chew anything in the  house. Although she is an older girl she enjoys and little fetch from time to time and a round of tug of war, and exploring her back yard. Carmel  also loves her dog bed and she will just go lay on her bed after walks or in the evening after dinner. She is really a laid back companion and did I  mention how sweet she is? Everyone she meets just loves how gentle she is. Carmel is simply easy going and affectionate and will not take much if any work to adapt to a home where she is loved and you will get in return a wonderful friend and companion.

How to Adopt Me

McKenzie

How to sponsor me

Rescued on: 4/20/13
Age: 2 years
Breed: Lab mix
Sex: Female
Fixed: Yes
Size: Small-40 pounds
House Trained: Yes
Other Dogs: Yes
Cats: Yes
Children: Older children
Leash: Could use some leash training. Seems new to it.
Personality Sweet, very calm and quiet, but also can be submissive at first when encountering new people. Seems hesitant around men, but will warm up if she is allowed to approach them first.
Story: Hi, my name is McKenzie and I am a sweet and dainty Lab mix. I am small, just 40 pounds. I like my girlish figure, so I don't plan on getting much bigger than this, which makes me just perfect for someone wanting a smaller sized dog.

Now don't get me wrong, I may be small, but I can hold my own with my resident foster dog, who is much bigger than me. We love to wrestle, chase and play tug of war in the backyard.

I love being around my foster mom especially, getting neck rubs and playing fetch. When we play fetch, I drop the ball at her feet, and promptly roll over for a belly rub. I tend to do better with women than men, but allow me to approach you and be patient with me and I will warm up with time.

I know a few commands, such as "come" and I learned "sit" in just a few hours. I am learning "down". I could use some training on a leash. I do well walking, but need to learn how to stay to one side (rather than sniff at everything). I stay at home all day while my foster mom and dad go to work and have never had an accident or been destructive.

I love getting attention and being petted. I also like being in my crate to sleep. One thing I do not like is loud noises, especially when they come from behind me, as well as sudden movements. While I am good around children, because of my fear of sudden movements and loud noises, I would be better in a home without small children. An owner who likes to go for walks, watch TV (and yes I will actually watch with you), and who lives in a quieter home environment would be the ideal setting for me.
I am not from Colorado and am learning my way around new things and new smells. This is making me a little nervous around new people and situations right now, but once I sniff things out to be sure it's safe, I'm OK.

Just be attentive and give me plenty of love and time to adjust, and I will be a perfect companion for you.
Thanks to Amy and Steve for being a great foster for McKenzie!

Nemo

How to sponsor me

Rescued on: 4/20/13
Age: 4 months
Breed: Lab Mix
Sex: Male
Fixed: When age appropriate
Size: Growing puppy
House Trained: Pretty close with regular trips outside.
Other Dogs: Yes
Cats: Yes
Children: Yes
Leash: YES, although is a puppy so will need training
Personality: Nemo is such an awesome puppy that just LOVES LIFE!! He doesn't realize that he has Mega-Esophagus and needs to slow down a bit! Most people would consider him a special needs puppy but NOT NEMO!!! He is a great pup and will make the right person/family a FABULOUS pet! It is just going to take someone that is willing to be patient with him and enjoy life! We are currently learning how to deal with his Mega-Esophagus and as of now he is fed water softened kibble in his kennel and stays in there for 15 minutes afterwards. He may need a Bailey Chair eventually (Google it or look on You Tube for many examples) but we tried one with him and he wasn't a big fan of it and then grew out of it. When he drinks water, he needs to take a little at a time and then remain somewhat calm while it makes it's way to his stomach. With MegaE, food and water have a hard time getting to the stomach so need some assistance. Aspirated pneumonia is a risk with MegaE but so far we haven't had any issues with Nemo. Nemo won't be the right pet for just anyone because it will take someone with time to deal with his condition. Nemo will win EVERYONE'S heart though as he hasn't met a stranger!!! He LOVES EVERYONE and EVERYTHING!!! He does great in his kennel at night and when his fosters are gone! Super easy pup for the right person!! He has LOTS of love to give!!!!
Story: Came from Joplin, MO where he has lived through Giardia, Kennel Cough and Parvo!!
Thanks to the Mauk family for being great fosters to Nemo!

Missy ADOPTION PENDING

How to sponsor me

Rescued on: April 28, 2013
Age: 3 years
Breed: lab mix
Sex: female
Fixed: Scheduled for 5/10
Size: medium for a lab; could lose a few pounds
House Trained: yes
Other Dogs: yes, friendly and respectful
Cats: yes, doesn't bother them
Children: yes, previously lived with a 2 year old and did well
Leash: pretty good
Personality:

Missy is a very sweet and smiley girl! She is definitively a people-dog-- loves to be near the people, see what's going on in the kitchen or just take a nap at your feet. She's past the puppy stage and still loves to go for walks outside and look for squirrels, but also knows when it is time to just be mellow and hang out inside. She's very friendly to other dogs and doesn't seem to mind cats at all. She knows "sit" and she is learning "stay". She previously lived in a house with a 2 year old child and apparently did very well-- I think she'd be perfectly fine with children. She rides well in the car and sleeps peacefully in her crate at night. She's a happy-go-lucky dog with a classic lab personality!

Story: Missy is a rescue from MO.
Thanks to Nar and Whitney for being great fosters to Missy!!

Cowboy ADOPTION PENDING

How to sponsor me

Rescued on: April 28, 2013
Age: 6 months
Breed: Lab Mix
Sex: Male
Fixed: Not yet
Size: 47lbs but growing and will be large
House Trained: No accidents
Other Dogs: Very good
Cats: TBD
Children: Due to his size, older children are recommended but he loves all children
Leash: Cowboy has an injured back leg so he has not been out on walks
Personality: Cowboy has been a well-behaved puppy since arriving.  He seems to be house-broken, sleeps in the kennel at night, loves to play with the resident lab, and being near his people.  He doesn’t let me out of his sight.  At six-plus months, Cowboy is a very large pup with enormous paws, so we think he might have some Newfoundland mixed in with lab.  Therefore, you need to make sure you want a BIG dog!  He goes to one of our vets today to have that injured back leg evaluated, as he isn’t weight bearing on it.  There is a possibility leg or hip surgery will be needed to correct the problem.  Cowboy will make someone or family a fantastic dog.  He is very loving, mellow, and wanting to please.
Story: Cowboy is a rescue from Columbia, MO.
Thanks to our volunteers for being great fosters to Cowboy!!

Rescued on: May 1, 2013
Age: 5 years
Breed: Yellow Lab Mix
Sex: Female
Fixed: Yes
Size: 68lbs
House Trained: Yes
Other Dogs: Yes
Cats: Good
Children: Yes
Leash: In training
Personality:
Finola, Nola as we call her, is one great goofy girl. She was an owner surrender in Kansas. Their loss is our gain.

Nola is very well behaved in the house. She likes to curl up by the fireplace and take a nap near her foster sister.  She is good in her crate or in the house by herself. She will be your shadow and follow you were ever you go. One of Nola’s favorite things is a chasing and chewing on a ball. Any ball will do, tennis ball, rubber ball or rope ball, she loves to chew on all of them.   Nola needs to work on her skills in public. She will pull on her leash. Nola is not a barker or a jumper, so she should be good with children.  Nola loves to play and will need a family that will exercise her on a regular basis. She loves to play fetch and has been known to chase a squirrel or two in the yard. As soon as you pick up a leash she is ready to go. She loves to go on cars rides and is very good in the car. Nola tends to ignore the cats except when they run by and then she will follow them.

Nola is and will be a wonderful best friend for some lucky family.

How to Adopt Me

JJ Flash

How to sponsor me

Rescued on: May 4, 2013
Age: 2 years
Breed: Yellow lab
Sex: Male
Altered:
Yes
Size: 60 lbs, needs to gain some weight
House Trained: Working on it
Other Dogs: Yes
Cats: Unknown
Children: Yes
Leash: Great so far!
Personality:
JJ Flash, aka Jumping Jack Flash, aka Jack, is quite the character.  He clearly got his name for his jumping abilities.  He can stand in one spot and jump straight up in the air.  He is learning to not jump on his human friends.  His foster home has a 6 foot fence and he has not jumped it.

JJ Flash is full of energy and loves to play with his foster siblings, loves to chase a ball and loves to eat.  He is very skinny and is working on gaining some weight.

JJ Flash understands basic commands and listens very well, very eager to please.  He is kennel trained and loves when his kennel is covered with a blanket.  At this point he is not trusted in the house alone so he is kenneled at night and during the day.  He is working on his house training.  He has not destroyed anything in the house and understands the dog toys are for him.

JJ Flash would fit in at an active household who can work with him, teach him fun things and take him on plenty of walks.  Looking for a lovely long term family.
Story: JJ Flash is a rescue from Arkansas.
Thanks to Caryn for fostering JJ Flash.

Queenie

How to sponsor me

Rescued on: May 2, 2013
Age: 8-10 years
Breed: Chocolate lab
Sex: Female
Fixed:
Yes
Size: 50lbs
House Trained: Yes
Other Dogs: Yes
Cats: Yes
Children: Yes
Leash: Yes
Personality:

Say hello to Queenie, the sweetest soul you will ever meet. Queenie is quiet, gentle and mellow. She has a beautiful coat that is redish-chocolate colored and she loves to be petted. Queenie will say hello to any person, dog, or cat and in her own gentle way, she wins everyone over instantly. She has golden brown eyes that have a bit of sadness behind them, but she doesn’t carry her past with her. She loves to go on short walks and behaves perfectly on the leash.

Queenie has some health issues and needs a forever home with patient and diligent people. Something is making Queenie itch, so she scratches herself. Her scratching has left her paws sore and raw, and some of the hair on her haunches is missing. Her lower teeth need some attention, which currently leaves her with a goofy, heart-warming smile so she also needs to see a doggie dentist.

Her foster Mom has been working with a Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue Vet to try and figure out what is going on with Queenie’s skin, and what is causing her itching. In the meantime, Queenie is happy to lay at your feet, give a gentle kiss, watch the cat move around the house, greet you at the door with a tail wag, and cock her head when she hears dogs on the TV. Queenie would love to live the rest of her life with you. Please consider this gentle dog. You will be so happy you did. Her courage and lovely disposition will be with you forever.
Story: Queenie was a stray in Houston, Texas. She came into a Houston Shelter on February 12.
Thanks to Karen for fostering Queenie!!

Age: 5 years
Breed: Lab
Sex: Female

Size: TBD
House Trained: Working on it.
Other Dogs: Good with our two, although they are submissive and couldn't be sweeter
Cats: no interest (according to the shelter)
Children: Most likely fine when she's had some training.
Leash: In training
Personality:
Rylee was picked up as a stray and has been out and about for a while as she needs to gain about 15 pounds.  She's a high energy dog, and needs an active family.  She is friendly and attaches quickly to her person.   She's very smart and learns quickly.   She is food-oriented which will help with her training. Her house manners need some work in the begging and counter surfing departments.   She'll need a good amount of food to help her gain weight, as well as a fair amount of exercise.  She needs non-grain food, as we suspect she may have an allergy.   She's a pretty sweet dog who will just continue to improve with training and regular feeding.

Jett

How to sponsor me

Rescued on: 5/18/2013
Age: 5-7 years
Breed: Lab Mix
Sex: Male
Fixed: Yes
Size: 67 lbs
House Trained: Yes
Other Dogs: Yes. He is cautious at first, but is doing fine with our alpha female dog. He mostly stays out of her way unless they are sharing a good sniff. She can be territorial, so this behavior might be more based on her than Jett.
Cats: Cats: Probably not. Information from shelter indicates he chases them.
Children: Children: Was good with older kids he met briefly at the pick-up. He is very gentle and would likely be good with younger kids as well.
Leash: Yes. He is pretty good on leash and does not pull often. We are working with him to stick to one side on his walks and preventing any pulling.

Personality:

Jett is a total sweetheart that is very excited about his new life in Colorado. His favorite greeting is a leg snuggle, and if you have time for a belly rub, that would be divine. He will pay you back with many kisses and cuddles if you like! He spent a lot of time outside in his previous home, but has adapted wonderfully to being in a house. His manners are quite impressive. His resume includes the following skills: sit, down, loose leash walking, house-trained, crate-trained, and being relaxed in the car. He hasn’t barked, counter-surfed or gotten on the furniture yet. He is very easy to train and is picking up new skills with ease. He loves his training! Jett would thrive with a fenced yard so he could show off his retrieving skills to you. He is VERY interested in squirrels and other small animals, and would likely chase them if off leash, so he should probably only be off-leash in a fenced area. Jett is in great shape and loves getting exercise while exploring new smells. However, he is pretty mellow, especially after he gets in his 45 minutes of exercise. In fact, he will readily settle into a nap in his dog bed if nothing exciting is going on. When he is not snoozing he loves being around his fosters, eating kongs, practicing training and giving lots of love. Overall Jett is a very sweet and happy dog that only needs a little bit of further training to perfect his house manners, so come and meet him! He would love to finally find his forever home.
Story: Jett was living at a lab rescue in Arkansas for 4 years. The rescue was hoarding dogs and Jett was outside almost all of the time.
Thanks Thanks to Shannon and Chad for being great fosters to Jett!!!

Rescued on: May 13, 2013
Age: 4-8 years
Breed: Yellow Lab
Sex: Male
Fixed: Yes
Size: 60lbs, and gain a couple more
House Trained: Yes
Other Dogs: Yes, is good with other dogs, but prefers people’s company.
Cats: No, likes to chase
Children: Yes
Leash: Good, still pulls periodically but in training
Personality Sam is a sweetheart through and through. He is very mild tempered and low key inside where follows his people around looking for affection. As soon as Sam starts to be pet or scratched his signature move is to flop and lean in for a belly rub and grunt a little when you scratch around his jaw. Outside, Sam enjoys his walks and will fetch anything you will throw for him. No one is quite sure how old Sam is but he jumps around the yard and fetches like a young three year old lab! He is very playful and likes to wrestle like a puppy on his back. Sam got worn out pretty quickly when we got him, but now he is putting on a little more weight and has already double his endurance while fetching and going for walks. He is looking forward to making up for some lost time with his new forever home giving lots of love and enjoying some play time.
Story: Sam is a rescue from Arkansas where he had heartworm and was severely underweight.

I enjoy going for walks (I am pretty good at walking) and being outdoors. I sleep well at night in my crate and I don’t make a peep, I stay there quietly when my people are away. I am learning some manners but I already know “sit”. Everything and everyone is still so new so I get a little excited and sometime need to be reminded to stay down, but I really just want to give everyone all of my lovin…please check back soon as my folks and I get acquainted and we will update you. Sex: Male
Fixed: Yes
Size: 50 lbs
House Trained: Yes, only a few 'incidents'
Other Dogs: Great
Cats: TBD
Children: TBD
Leash: Pretty good, harness would be helpful.

Personality:

Ruben is a gentle, calm and easy-going guy. He likes to be around people, but doesn’t need to be by your side at all times. He loves scratches and to stick his head out the window in the car! He is really great with our two labs, will play tug-of-war and play briefly, but likes to do his own thing too. When playing with our male lab Ruben inappropriately marked the armchair. He understands no, sit and lay down. He wants to learn, just needs some consistency. Ruben has been pretty quiet, and will go in his crate when you ask him to. He is small but could gain a few pounds. He LOVES food and is interested in the next meal time! Typical lab… He can pull when out for a walk but is conscious of you and will listen if you ask him to ‘heel’.

Leash: working on it (going for walks is still a new EXPERIENCE)

Personality:

Boy is a big friendly giant. He has spent the last few days getting adjusted to living in a house. So far, his favorite place is anywhere you are, and he will conquer new territory to get there. His first trip down the stairs was a very slow army crawl. Although many things are new for him, his youthfulness overcomes. He now flies through the house like he owns it, and will play with any toy in sight. Boy is still very much a puppy and can be unaware of his size. He is lacking in the manners department, but is eager to learn because he loves any form of affection from people, and is already becoming a pro at sit. Otis

How to sponsor me

Rescued on: 5/12/2013
Age: 8-10 Yrs
Breed: Lab Mix
Sex: Male
Fixed: Yes
Size: 77 Lbs
House Trained: Yes
Other Dogs: Great! Calm and friendly, but not terribly interested in playing
Cats: TBD
Children: TBD, but has been friendly with everyone he has met, so I expect would be great with kids too and has a very gentle nature
Leash: Does well on leash

Personality:

In so many ways, Otis is your classic "experienced" lab. He is kind, gentle, sweet, wise, loving, calm, and unbelievably handsome! I have no idea how such a sweet soul could have found himself lost and then not be claimed by his family at the shelter where he landed. It is clear that he has been loved, and in return, it is clear that he knows how to love back. Now this guy deserves a new family to love him through his golden years! Otis is still settling into his foster home, but so far he has been a wonderful house guest! He is really easy going, enjoys napping on soft dog beds and even chooses to nap in a crate once in a while, is getting along great with the resident dogs (one male, one female), and has also been very gentle with a visiting puppy and with a friend's pugs. He seems to be housebroken and does not appear to have any destructive tendencies. He also enjoys poking around the yard, and loves it when you bring a dog bed out on the deck for him to relax near you! He isn't very interested in toys yet (but does enjoy an occasional bone to chew...), but he is happy for the other dogs to play with toys around him and shows no guarding tendencies at all. He certainly enjoys getting attention, but doesn't feel the need to be constantly underfoot and is happy to lay in a place that allows him to watch what is going on without being in the way. Otis is still learning his new name (he didn't tell us what he went by before), but does seem to know some basic commands like sit and down. Otis came to RMLR with a few health issues that we are working on sorting out for him with his vet. Please check back for updates as we learn more about his health!

Blue

How to sponsor me

Rescued on: May 20, 2013
Age: 3-5 Yrs
Breed: Lab Mix
Sex: Male
Fixed: Yes
Size: 68 lbs
House Trained: Yes
Other Dogs: Usually ok but can be possesive of toys or items he is guarding.
Cats: No
Children: Teens
Leash: still a work in progress, good usually.

Personality:

Personality: Sweet, loving, but has a very high prey drive. Loves to cuddle, fetch and play with toys.
Story: Story: Blue was originally picked up as a stray in Idaho 2 yrs ago. He was adopted by a family and has worked with trainers, they have taught him several skills. He knows Sit, Down, Stay, Leave It, Out, Upstairs, Downstairs, he waits for permission to go through doorways, follows behind on the stairs, etc. He is great in the house - potty trained, crate trained, does not counter surf or get into the trash. No separation or storm anxiety. He needs to find another home because he is currently living in a place that backs to open space, and it is not a good fit because he has a very high prey drive. He will make a great companion for an active person - running, hiking, etc. He will fetch all day long. He loves to play with toys. He loves to cuddle.
Thanks to Laura and Pete for being a great foster to Blue!!

How to Adopt Me

Bo

How to sponsor me

Rescued on: April 28, 2013
Age: 8 years
Breed: lab mix
Sex: Male
Fixed: TBD
Size: TBD
House Trained: Yes
Other Dogs: Yes, he would enjoy having a friendly dog to hang with.
Cats: Bo is very interested in my cat.  He appears to want to be friends, but  Junie is afraid of him. Recommend no cats or a house with a cat familiar with dogs.
Children: Bo loves everyone.  He wanted my older grandsons to play with him, run and chase him.  He would be good with most children, I think.
Leash: He pulls a little on the leash, but that is just because he wants to see what is around the corner!
Personality:

Bo loves the world around him. He is interested in everything and brings an energy & happiness to my home. He loves people and to have someone notice him. He loves to go for walks and rides in the car, but when I am watching tv or working at home, he is content to be on the couch with me or in the room with me. Bo would love an active family. A family that is willing to take him for walks and rides and just share their life with him. It is hard to think he is eight years old, he is just so captivated by his surroundings.  He is content with me but would really like someone more outgoing and active. I have not explored his capability for long walks and his age has to be a consideration.

Bo says, “Colorado is wonderful. I want to see all of it.  I am always ready for a walk or a ride.  I usually remember to sit nicely when you put my leash on and almost always remember to wait for permission to leave the car (if you don’t take too long).  I promise I will never let someone ring the bell or come in the house without letting you know.  I can woo woo pretty good.  I really really would like a family to explore this fantastic world with."

Story: Bo is a rescue
Thanks to Paula for being a great foster to Paula!!

Taco Please contact: Theresa Fletcher, 970-596-6669 or theresafletcher79@gmail.com

Taco is an approx 10 year old male chocolate lab.   Taco is a complete human lover and enjoys getting lots of pets and attention. He needs a home where he is the only other animal.  Taco is extremely aggressive towards other dogs. We think he may have been attacked at some point, and although he has been living with 2 other dogs for the past 8 years, he gets along with them but not any others. He is extremely loyal and would much rather sit at your feet receiving affection than playing outdoors. Taco would love a fenced in yard for times when he is outside, so that he can roam and you won't have to be worried about him getting mad at other dogs walking by. When outdoors, he loves playing fetch for sticks and balls. Taco does not like cats or any other animals that we have seen so far. Taco is an early to bed type and a late sleeper. He is not anxious to go outside before the sun comes up or if it's too cold. Taco LOVES children and any other human for that matter. He is very gentle with children, except if they try to give him food. He will sometimes scare children because he grabs at food really quickly. Taco is an excellent leash dog.

Marlie Please contact The Shiba Scout Rescue: adoptashiba@shibascoutrescue.com

Marlie is a 5 year old female Black Labrador Retriever that came from a puppy mill in Nebraska last November. She is mostly if not all blind but that doesn't slow her down. She is super affectionate, loves attention and loves walks. She is good with cats and kids but can get into fights with dogs her size or larger.

Marlie's adoption fee is $150.00. She is spayed, received a dental, and was vaccinated for distemper and rabies and microchipped.

 Dolly
Contact  anelsen328@gmail.com for information

Dolly is a very sweet lab mix. She loves going on walks, hikes and being around people. Dolly needs a family that is active and around the house most of the day. Dolly has separation anxiety at times and does better when she is around her family often throughout the day. She can be left alone for some time without problems but is much happier with people. She gets along with everyone. She loves cats and
small animals, and gets along with most dogs. She has never bitten a person or animal and does not have a mean bone in her body. She has a lot of energy and really needs a family that can keep up with her. The more exercise she gets the less anxiety she has when left alone. She is potty and crate trained, however she has been able to get out of almost every crate when her anxiety occurs. Recently she has been staying in the house alone when we are gone. She knows basic commands and some fun tricks. She is very smart and learns very easily. We are very sad to give her up but we are very busy and can not give her the time and attention that she deserves.
