Darla

On Hold at Prison Training Program Working on Basic Skills
Available for Adoption after 9/18/10.

With RMLR Since:
Wednesday May 26th, 2010
Name: Darla
Age: 2 years
Breed: Black Lab
Sex: Female
Fixed: Yes
Size: 68lbs.
House Trained:
Yes
Other Dogs: Enjoys playing with some dogs but can be choosy about her canine friends
Cats: TBD
Children: Fine with older children. She has a lot of energy and can get a little excited for the little ones.

Leash:

She loves going for walks and is learning not to pull with her gentle leader/halite. We are working on proper socialization skills with Darla too.

Personality: Darla is a very loving girl, with a lot of energy. She would be a great addition to a family as an only pet, but with a family that has time to work on her training and confidence. She has some anxiety around other dogs, so she also needs work on socialization. But she is very willing to learn.  She is a beautiful soft coat black lab mix. She does great with daily exercise. She still has a lot of puppy energy for a 2 yr old!!  She loves her daily walks but she is not a dog I would have on a extended leash. I am trying to work with her keeping by my side during our walk/runs.  We are using a Haltie and it seems to help with her pulling, but she will lunge at other dogs because she thinks everyone should play with her on the trail!!  She know some basic commands and would do wonderful with some formal obedience training. She does go into a crate with some help but  usually doesn’t complain after she’s  in there, she has done better sleeping on the floor by my son’s bed.  She would make a great pet for anyone with time to work with her.  She loves her belly rubbed and I think she would love playing fetch, but our Choc Lab has a ball obsession so Darla rarely gets to the ball before he does. She is a great girl that just wants to feel secure with her surroundings to help build up her confidence and enjoy all that Colorado has to offer a young lab!!!
Story: She is a rescue from Kansas City, MO.

Thanks to Adriana for being a great foster to Darla!

Name: Cassie
Age: 2 years
Breed: Black Lab
Sex: Female
Fixed: Yes
Size: 50lbs.
House Trained Yes
Other Dogs: Yes, loves them!
Cats: TBD
Children: TBD
Leash: Pulls, needs some work.
Personality:

Hi I'm Cassie, If you're looking for a sweet goofy ball of love and fun then I'm your girl. I crack my foster mom up with my antics going after the ball. Even though I'm not huge she thinks there may be some great Dane in my family tree because of my unusual head and feet. I know some of my basic commands and am learning to like my kennel too. I am house trained and quiet in the house and yard. I love my foster brothers and sister and we wrestle, play chase, ball and chew the furry squishy toys here. They say I'm 2 but I still act like a puppy. I would love to be in a forever home that likes water and lots of activities and maybe another dog to play with. I don't know if I like cats. I need more leash training but do really well with treats. I promise to be the bestest friend you could have....Sincerely Cassie

Although estimated to be about two years old, Cassie is still very much a puppy. Unable to deny her Labrador genes, Cassie is  huge fan of water, enjoys a good game of fetch and loves to cuddle.  She has been working on her basic commands at her foster home and currently responds to "sit" and "go to bed." Already house trained, Cassie models one of the biggest benefits to adopting an older puppy.  She is  very sweet and gentle when taking treats which is wonderful motivation as she continues her training. This happy, confident, smart young girl is looking forward to finding her family to spend forever with!

Story:  She was rescued from Manhattan, Kansas

Thanks to Carol & Troy for being a great foster to Cassie!

With RMLR Since:
Friday  August 13, 2010
Name: Archie
Age: 5-6 years
Breed: Yellow Lab
Sex: Male
Fixed: TBD
Size: 77 lbs  and looking forward to gaining a few more!
House Trained Yes
Other Dogs: Yes
Cats: Yes
Children: Older children due to his blindness
Leash: Ok...pulls a bit.
Personality:

Hi, there! I’m Archie! Yes, it’s true that I suffered a life of neglect in the past, but thankfully, Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue has stepped in, and is preparing me for a well deserved life of happiness in the future! I was found wandering as a stray, and was extremely skinny and had cuts and scrapes that are now rapidly healing as I receive TLC from my foster home. You see, I had one more obstacle that made my life as a wanderer even more challenging- I can’t see! Yep! That’s right. I’m blind! RMLR took me to see a doggy ophthalmologist (eye doctor), but unfortunately, my blindness is not correctable as I have retinal disease. But don’t you worry- I don’t let that slow me down one bit! I’m a lab, after all, and we labs have “can do!” attitudes! I still go jogging with my foster mom, and it’s incredible to watch me compensate for my lack of sight by using my other senses. My ability to make my way in this world would be so much easier if I had a forever home and family where I could be familiar with my surroundings, and have people I trusted to guide me a bit. I’ll need a home where my people have lots of time to keep me safe while I become acquainted with my new home (for example, stairs could be a danger if I’m not watched and/or properly acquainted with them). With just a bit of extra time, patience, and love, I can still do all the active, fun stuff any lab could do (including stairs, as long as my family is sure I know where they are!), and I just might develop an even closer bond to my people! So if you think you have an extra special place in your home and your heart, please come visit me- I’m sure I’ll win ya over!

Ellie
How to sponsor her

With RMLR Since:
Friday August 27, 2010
Name: Elloise
Age: 14 months
Breed: Black Lab
Sex: Female
Fixed: Yes
Size: 45 pounds and Ellie looks great. Everyone at the dog park thought she was a puppy.
House Trained Ellie is learning and doing well. Coming from a breeder, she urinates only once every 24 hours, which is normal for now, but she should become more like a "normal" dog over time.
Other Dogs: Ellie is scared of new dogs at first. She can cower and avoid eye contact. However, one day at the Chatfield dog park changed her from cowering to greeting other dogs on her own. Ellie will need continued dog socialization through dog parks and walks to make her the great dog she can be.
Cats: She ignores the cats she has met.
Children: Because of Ellie's background, she gets frightened of loud children. She would do best in a quieter home. While she is great with kids of all ages and shows no signs of aggression, Ellie would prefer kids that are calmer.
Leash: As much as Ellie loves to please, she has no idea how leash walking works. She goes from side to side, behind you, in front of you, and every way in between. She doesn't pull yet, like so many labs do, so you have that in your favor. Ellie would love some leash training to make her a better dog.
Personality: Ellie comes from a breeder and unlike so many dogs in her situation, she loves people but is tentative of new dogs. She could go to a home without another dog, but that home must continue to socialize her with other dogs with often trips to the dog park and walks in the neighborhood meeting other dogs. If that's not possible, then Ellie should go to a home with another confident dog.

Ellie is a quick learner and still so much a puppy! Even at 14 months old, she didn't get a chance to have some fun. She is so curious and inquisitive, cocking her head to the side when she sees something she doesn't understand. She loves learning from her golden foster brothers and now will cuddle with them.

Ellie doesn't quite get toys yet, but that could come with time. During her visit to Chatfield she went into the water, but she has recently been spayed, so there was no opportunity to swim although we anticipate she would enjoy that.

Ellie loves people and will welcome strangers to pet her. She is just the sweetest, little thing. She is always with her foster mom and would love a home where someone will love her forever, but also teach her that other dogs are awesome too!

Story: From a breeder who could no longer afford to keep their dogs and were going to euthanize all of them.

Thanks to Anne for being a great foster to Ellie!

Sex: Male
Fixed: Yes
Size: 65lbs.
House Trained Yes
Other Dogs: Yes, loves to play and run!
Cats: Sorry, too interested...
Children: Older Children
Leash: Needs practice...
Personality: WANTED: In search of a best friend, a compadre, a numero uno who shares my zest for life! I am a young free spirited pup who would love to accompany you on all your outdoor adventures: hiking, running, walking...you name it! Coming from Kansas I have eagerly anticipated the Colorado lifestyle that caters to active young families who are only complete with their best "rover" hanging by their side. Well that's me a highly qualified "rover." I am approximately one year old, I am always decked out in a fashionable but practical Chocolate fur coat accented by a white chest and a few white toes. One look in my bright gold eyes and you will see I am a smart boy eager to learn. I am very food/treat motivated which will only sweeten the pot during our training sessions. No, I'm not perfect, I enjoy eating alone and like all young dogs I would benefit from some training.  You know what they say "a tired lab is a good lab." Well that's me Marco just a young dog aspiring to become a runner/hiker extraordinaire.  I look forward to training for our first 14er! Just ask for me M-A-R-C-O!
Story: He is a rescue from Bonner Springs, KS.

Name: Isabelle
Age: 14 months
Breed: Black Lab
Sex: Female
Fixed: No, soon though.
Size: 44lbs.
House Trained Yes
Other Dogs: Still learning to trust them, she does well around and just starting to be interested in playing.
Cats: Yes, doesn't bother them.
Children: Learning to trust all people.
Leash: Learning to trust and walk on a leash.
Personality:

My name is Isabelle. I am a petite lab with a gorgeous coat of black fur. I have had a pretty rough life so far and am looking for that special family to bring me out of my shell. My foster parents say that I am getting better at trusting people and other dogs. I don't hide as much anymore and I want to be apart of the family! I love swimming, I forget all about any past troubles when I'm swimming and just let loose! I am very good in my kennel and am very quiet! I don't ever jump on anyone and I don't chew on anything I'm not supposed to! I would just like to find that right family to give me a chance to be the dog I've always wanted to be! I just need a little help to open up and I will be a great family dog!

She was not properly socialized when she was with the breeder. Therefore, she MUST be adopted to a home with a resident dog who can teach her how to be a behave in her new life as a valued pet and family member.

Story: From a breeder who could no longer afford to keep their dogs and were going to euthanize all of them.

Thanks to Julie for being a great foster to Isabelle!

Breed: Chocolate Lab

Size: 94lbs.
House Trained Yes
Other Dogs: Yes, very calm.
Cats: Yes
Children: Yes
Leash: Good!
Personality: My name is Vince! Please don't judge me by my picture. I was having a rough day at the shelter and they "REALLY" didn't get my good side. I guess you will just have to see me to believe it! I'm a dog of few words so lets cut to the chase. I'm a BIG (I hate to admit it but I could stand to loose a few pounds) Chocolate lab who is tired of being bounced around, the shelter life is really not for me and I can't wait to settle in on a bed of my own. Currently I am fostered with another young lab that I enjoy hanging out with. We don't play too much and I am not big into fetch. When I lean into you that is your cue that I would really love some affection! I have been at my foster home only a short time and he has assessed me as a low key kind of guy that would do well with children, doesn't really think I would have a problem with cats and could be an easy going companion for your family dog. I'm told I would be the perfect addition to most homes, not too demanding, just a daily walk to help me shed some of these extra pounds in return a loyal leanin' handsome Chocolate Lab to warm your feet!
Story: He is a rescue from Hays, KS.

Thanks to Greg for being a great foster to Vince!

Manny
How to sponsor him

With RMLR Since:
Friday August 27, 2010
Name: Manny
Age: 8 months
Breed: Chocolate Lab
Sex: Male
Fixed: No, soon though.
Size: 42 lbs and gaining
House Trained Yes
Other Dogs: Yes
Cats: TBD
Children: TBD
Leash: Needs practice
Personality: At 8 months old Manny is finally able to stretch his puppy paws and enjoy the luxuries that come with being an indoor dog. Manny is one of the dogs that came from a breeder who after falling on hard times was going to euthanize all their dogs. Thankfully, a dog lover stepped in finding local rescue groups to take all the precious pups.  Manny is very fond of attention from his people, he is learning to play with the resident dogs at his foster home and has quite a fondness of doggy toys. Very much a puppy Manny enjoys prancing around the backyard with his favorite rubber ducky in his mouth, throwing it up only to pounce on it and run around some more. Manny is a smart dog eager to please, since arriving at his foster home he has learned to "fetch" and "sit." Like a gentleman he sits for all his meals and waits patiently for people to throw his ball for him. He is well on his way to being potty trained and just an all around great guy. Arriving only a week ago emaciated, covered in fleas and afraid of stairs...Manny is a testament to the "triumph of the doggy spirit." Now he is a happy go lucky puppy who relishes belly rubs, squeaky toys and tennis balls. Like all puppies Manny will require training, exercise and socialization with both people as well as other pups.  Manny is happy to put the past behind him and looks forward to finding a forever family of his own!
Story: From a breeder who could no longer afford to keep their dogs and were going to euthanize all of them.

Thanks to Charee for being a great foster to Manny!

Age: 10 months
Breed: Black Lab
Sex: Female
Fixed: Yes
Size: TBD
House Trained Yes
Other Dogs: Yes with some, best with male dogs.
Cats: TBD
Children: TBD
Leash: Needs work. Pulls alot but trainable with treats.
Personality: Alicia is friendly and sweet! She’s playful and intelligent (very smart!). Her light brown eyes are gorgeous and warm and she is a beautiful, petite black lab mix puppy with a white patch on the center of her chest. She loves to sit in my lap at night and watch TV. She is curious about her surroundings, loves to eat and sleeps through the night! She would do best in an active family since she loves to run on the leash with her ears flopping back in the breeze. Alicia would make a great family dog. She is smart, has puppy energy and would need some training with jumping habits.
Story: She is a rescue looking for her forever home.

Shadow  (10 years) Black Lab Mix  F

Hi, my name is Shadow and I am 10 years old. I am a female black lab mix. I have lived my whole life since 4 months of age in a tiny outdoor kennel with very little attention. I was fed and that was about it. I have had a urine leakage problem and no one ever helped me. I have sat in my own urine my whole life too. I am pretty hollow inside and you can see it in my eyes. Luckily, I was pulled from this horrible place. I have been staying at a doggie daycare in Vail. I love all my hikes and the people. It is just a bit too much for me with all the traffic in and out of the facility. I am older and just want some one on one time with my person. I love to hike, go in the car, get treats, and go on walks. I love to run around in the yard. This is my very favorite thing to do. I do like other dogs. I like my pack to be small. I am learning how to share toys. I never had any so this is new to me. I would LOVE a chance to be loved and to fill the emptiness in my heart. Please give me a chance by fostering or adopting me. The vet is working with me on leaking and it should not be a problem soon.

Angel was found in a remote area of Northern New Mexico. We think she is Chocolate Lab/Heeler mix and is about 7 months old. She's now been spayed, has had all vaccinations, and is crate trained. Angel is a very smart, loyal and loving girl and I'm hoping to find a home for her with other dogs.

Polo  Yellow Lab  M

Polo is a prize! He is a loving, super handsome, healthy Golden- hearted Labrador Retriever. Those who have had the good fortune to live with a Lab  know they are wonderful dogs: loyal, affectionate, patient, and fun loving. They are also energetic, highly intelligent, and good-natured. GRFR Polo is Lab through and through! As his foster mom says, "Polo is a sweet, goofy, clumsy, charming and exuberant teenager!" Polo is a happy go lucky tail wagging boy. He loves to be with his people and  always has a smile on his face. Polo loves other dogs and loves to play, and play, and play!! Polo weighs 90 pounds. He is strong, athletic and a bundle of energy. So, GRFR will be sure that Polo chooses a forever home without children under twelve years old, small dogs or kitty cats. "Well done, Polo!" GRFR also will be sure that Polo choses a family who commits to going to doggy school with him. Polo will brush up on the basics and learn more. You and Polo will build your trust and deepen your bond with each other too. "A well-trained Retriever is a happy Retriever with a happy family too!"

Mr. Polo is a typical two year old Retriever -- and that means daily exercise is key to his and his humans' mental and physical well being. He walks well on leash, after the excitement of the first block or so. If you are looking for an eager jogging partner, Polo is ready!
Polo does well in his foster home crate for short periods  when he is home alone. GRFR recommends that Polo spend no more than a few hours at a time in his crate given his youthful energy. If you are Lab savvy and looking for a wonderful new family member, please apply on line today. Polo would love to meet you!

Please Visit the Golden Retreiver Freedom Rescue Website to learn more about Polo or to adopt him.

Hobo  (1 year) Black Lab Mix  M

Hello I am Hobo and I am a Labrador Retriever Mix. I am just about a year old. I found my own foster home, I was wandering around and came upon a real nice covered porch and I thought I'd just sleep for a while as I had been traveling like a Hobo, with just the shirt on my back, (so to speak) hah. But seriously, they took one look at me and asked me inside. I am very friendly they have alot of foster dogs here and I just blended in quite nicely. I am working on housebreaking and use a doggy door and that was easy to master and I have good manners. I would like to find my forever home that will let me run in a fenced backyard and sleep inside in a nice comfy bed so I don't get misplaced again.

Call Elise at 816 898 5646 or email cbush86975@aol.com

Hobo is up-to-date with routine shots and neutered.
